Emergent Layer
The Emergent layer is highest layer in a rainforest, therefore it receives the most sunlight. Animals that live up in the Emergent layer stay up there to avoid predators. From the tree tops you will be able to see most of the rainforest. The emergent layer is about 38 metres high.
Canopy Layer
The canpoy layer is located directly below the emergent layer. Lots of food can be found in this layer. The canpoy is home to many of the rainforet's animals such as monkeys, toucan, sloths, jaguars, leopards, and many more types of animals. This layer is special because it absorbs some ultra violet rays and can protect plants and animals from below. The canopy layer is about 29 metres high.
Under Story Layer
The under story layer is locate directly below the canopy layer and above the forest floor, also know as the undergrowth. the under story layer is very dense. many animals in this layer are nocturnal, meaning they are awake during the night and are inactive during the day. Plants and tress in this layer have large leaves so that they can absorb all the light they can get from the sun. The under story layer 17 metres high.
Forest Floor
The forest floor is the lowest layer of the rainforest. it is also know as the undergrowth. It is very dark and the soil is very poor quality. This layer receives the least amount of sunlight because it is at the bottom and the other layers prevent sunlight from reaching it. Not much happens on the forest floor and not many plants grow unlike on the other layers. Iguanas, ant eaters, bugs, frogs and snakes can be found on the forest floor.
